Should you wash your hair every day?
Yes, when we wash our hair with shampoo, we wash away all the dirt, grime, and what’s left of the product we used that day. Washing keeps our hair clean and light, but it also strips our hair of natural oils (Damn you double-edged sword!).
You’ve heard me talk about how to have healthy hair and the best way to clean your hair. If you watch these videos (and like them!) you’ll learn that the short answer to our original question is: as little as possible. Personally, I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner every other day. But everyone’s different.
If you have a particularly oily scalp, you may have to wash your hair every day. The same is true if you have fine hair, exercise a lot, or if you live in a humid place.
But if you have dry, thick, or curly hair, you can get away with washing your hair less frequently.
So I guess the long answer is, “It depends…”
Now you’re thinking: Joe, can’t you just give me a straight answer?
Sorry – it’s not that simple. Everyone’s unique in the environment where they live, their hair type, and the products they use (although, everyone should be using BluMaan).
Signs that You Should Wash Your Hair More Often
But don’t worry. BluMaan’s here to help you determine how often you should wash your hair. Here are some signs that you should wash your hair more often:
When you don’t wash your hair, extra debris that gets caught up in it. This leads to itching and scratching. The scratching messes with your scalp and hair follicles and causes all sorts of flaking.
Loss of volume and shine
When you don’t shampoo often enough, your hair’s gonna have excess styling product in it. This can weigh your hair down and make it look greasy.
That smell? It might be you…
Just like the rest of your body, your scalp has naturally-occurring bacteria. And just like the rest of your body, these can cause an unpleasant odor. A consistent washing schedule will make sure you never get to this point. Please make sure you never get to this point.
Is “No Poo” for you?
There’s a thing called, “no poo.” It means you don’t use shampoo or conditioner ever! This is ok if you never use any styling products in your hair. Water’s enough to cleanse your hair of the excess dirt and grime.
But if you do use styling products, you’ll need shampoo and conditioner to wash away that extra product lying around in your hair. The build up can clog your pores and cause side effects that you just don’t want to be a part of.
You never want to get to the point where your hair and scalp feel noticeably gross. But you may have to, if you want to figure out how often you should wash your hair.
Make a note of when your hair starts to get grungy. Is it 2 days after a wash? 3 days? Once you figure out a pattern, you can start to develop a hair care regimen that’s suited to you. Then you’ve solved the eternal question of “how often you should wash your hair.” Then your biggest problem will be keeping people from running their fingers through your gorgeous (and clean!) head of hair.
