April Showers – How to deal with your hair and rain
Rain, we hate it or love it. One thing for certain though is that it can turn a good hair day into a bad one.
So how do you style your hair when it rains? – Those of you living in areas where it doesn’t rain as much, you are very lucky. However, for those of you living in areas of wet weather conditions I feel your pain. When you see rain, you probably don’t even want to try and put any effort into styling your hair. You reach for a hat and call it a day right? Wrong. You should always try to look your best and never let the rain decide when you should or should not style your hair.
Rain and your hair
Stepping out in the rain with your freshly applied hair style can easily break down your product and leave your hair looking like you just got out of the shower. It definitely helps using the right product because a water based product will start to break down at the first contact of water.
So what can you do to save your hair from looking like a mess?
You can stand under my Umbrella
Insert Rihanna reference. Umbrellas are going to be one of the keys to save yourself from a bad hair day. It’s simple but people tend to forget an umbrella before they leave for the day. What’s great about an umbrella is that you don’t have to put a hood on your head to protect your hair from the rain.
Also, it’s designed to withstand rain so you wont have to worry about rain penetrating through the material of an umbrella. Unless you’re carrying an umbrella filled with holes…
Bring Product with you
Don’t be afraid to bring product with you. Carry a jar of product with you in your bag so that you’re ready to re-style. Let’s face it, you’re bound to come into contact with rain so expect some loss in volume and hold. Instead of letting it become messy, take a break and get your hair looking its best again with a bit of product boost.
Carrying a jar will help you re-style throughout the day if you’re always running in and out of your work, school or home.
Also a medium sized comb or pocket comb goes a long way! Carrying a comb with you will help you reshape your hair better than using your hands. Achieving a more crisp and cleaner look.
Use it to your advantage
This is a prayer in disguise. Depending on your lifestyle, the rain could help with pre-styling your hair. Hear me out, this isn’t the best way to pre-style your hair but sometimes you have to play with the dice you have. In this case, the dice is rain.
Here’s where improvisation is important. Use the rain to wet your hair like you would if you were pre-styling. Once you’re at your destination head to the washroom where there’s bound to be a dryer. Apply Original Styling Meraki as you would and place your head under the dryer for a minute or so. This isn’t the proper way that Joe’s been teaching everyone but we cant be in the ideal situations all the time.
Now you might not have time to completely dry your hair and you might even encounter people walking in and out of the bathroom. That’s something you will have to either be comfortable with or not.
I know from personal experience, attending weddings outside in wet weather will ruin any hair. Luckily, having product with me I could easily add a bit more to get my hair looking its best.
